Making Santa

To construct my Santa Claus I 1st built an armature using aluminium wire and steel joints that I purchased, I then cut, filed down and glued a polystyrene egg around it to act as a light padding for the body.


I covered this in Plasticine and used red heat shrink tubing for the legs.


I then began to give it shape as I sculpted Santa's coat.


Next, I smoothed it and added some thinner red heat shrink tubing for arms.


After smoothing some more I made a collar to go on the coat and hide the neck and arm joints.


I then made the head using sculpy that I baked in the oven, and a white Plasticine beard, hair and hat. The glasses I made from a very thin wire that would usually be used to make fingers on an armature.
