Making sets: Spaceship

The spaceship set consists of 2 parts.

Part 1 shows the control panel and screen that the boss alien comunicates to them through and part 2 shows Santa strapped to a slab, along with a shelf and door in the background.
Both spaceship sets are made from foamboard, the same as the livingroom set, except instead of any wall paper or carpets I used a metallic spray paint to give a cold metal feel. I was originally going to use tin foil to achieve this effect, however I found that it ripped and crinckled way to easy. The metallic paint was good as it was not too reflective, but the only draw back was it was easily smudged and the aliens lefts marks were they had been. This wasnt too much of a problem tho as the aliens are morphing blobs so they perhaps should leave marks whereever theyve been.

First of all I made part one, the control panel is foamboard with buttons that are painted on and others that are made from plastercine, I added a few extra bits here such as a spaceship instruction manual and a jar of sweets.

The tv screen is made from a dollhouse window frame and glass which i painted black. ontop of the TV is a DVD player which i made from plasticine. (DVD player not pictured here)

I also made some bumper stickers that the aliens might have collected on there travels and placed them about the control panel.

These stickers are as follows (also included is the book):

Part 2 of the spaceship consists of a simular layout but from the opposite angle. I made a doorframe using plasticine and shelves from wood.

Just below the shelves is a creature I made out of my old red alien design. This can be seen moving around insides it's quarentined cage marked 'Biohazzard' and 'Subject 20669: do not feed!'

On the shelves I could include as many little tid bits as I liked and had a lot of fun thinking of things to put on. it includes:
Bobble head dolls of Nworb and Nibor,
a tiny volcano that errupts,
a plant with eyeballs instead of flowers,
a small timmy doll,
and a load of other things.

I included a scale sized pancil sharpener and a chewing gum also. All these tiny things make up the mese en scene of the piece and give it an extra level of quirkyness.

Influences for these shelves come from films like 'Flight of the navigator', where the spaceship has many alien life forms collected from various places it has been

a simular thing can be seen in 'predator 2' where you see all the skulls of the many aliens that the preditor race has made its prey.

And also 'Labyrinth', where at the end of the film you see almost all the characters that Sarah has encountered are in her room as trinkets and stuffed toys.

I also needed a picture of Satan to go in the bible Nworb is reading, and so I made this:
