The Pulfrich effect

It was also while watching "3rd Rock from the sun" that i came across an intresting idea, as the last two episodes of season 2 are 3-D episodes, where you have to wear special 3D glasses to witness the effect. Yet if you watch the very same shows without 3d glasses they just look like ordinary television, unlike the more commen red and blue 3-D technique, known as... So I did a little research into this effect, known as the Pulfrich effect.

Discovered by Carl Pulfrich in 1922, who never got to view it as he only had sight in one eye.
The pulfrich effect is an optical illusion that gives a 3d effect by creating depth.
Special 3d glasses are used to see this and is obtained by certain movements.

The reason for this is one lens is clear and the other is dark which sends both images to your brain seperetly.
for example, if the camera is moving left, you simply move the object you want to appear 3d to the right.

this diagram shows it working, it shows a pendulum swinging and how it looks with the pulfrich effect.
